WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings used rebounding to rebound.
The Lady Vikings rebounded from a loss to Portsmouth Notre Dame on Thursday by cleaning the glass with 49 rebounds in a 59-52 win over the Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers on Saturday.
“We did a good job keeping them from getting second and third shots and then getting second shots ourselves,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Alvin Carpenter.
Sierra Ross pulled down 14 rebounds for the Lady Vikings (11-5, 7-3) while both Kaitlyn Crabtree and Jensyn Shepherd grabbed 12.
Payton Walsh had 22 points and seven steals to lead Symmes Valley. Shepherd scored 19 points, Crabtree had 13 points and Ross handed out seven assists.
Cammie DeLotell and Jensen Warnock scored 16 points each for Clay.
Walsh scored six points in the first quarter as Symmes Valley took a 12-9 lead.
Shepherd had eight points in the second quarter but Clay rallied to take a 25-24 halftime lead.
The Lady Vikings tied the game 39-39 at the end of the third quarter and then Walsh scored nine points in the fourth quarter including 4-of-4 at the foul line over the final 30 seconds to seal the win.
On Thursday, Taylor Schmidt and Hagen Schaeffer each scored 21 points as Notre Dame won 74-41.
Shepherd scored 19 points for the Lady Vikings.
Symmes Valley hosts New Boston on Monday.
