King’s legacy lives on

Next Monday, Jan. 16, people across the United States and the world will remember and honor the work of a man who had a simple philosophy about the future of America.

Love and compassion for others.

It may sound simple, but in reality that message was so much more to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

We have not fully fulfilled the vision and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and while division still exists, we as a country have made some positive steps.

However, we must look at the issues that remain in our country and come together as one if we are ever to realize this vision.

King’s legacy is rooted in the desire for equality for all humanity, and for that, we should be forever grateful.

While the official holiday only lasts one day each January, remembering the work Dr. King did each day is the example we should follow.

And although we continue to face some of the same issues today, understanding what we can be through his leadership can move us closer to the finish line.

Our long-term success as a nation can be aided by using the blueprint Dr. King gave his life for and finally realizing his dream.
