Yvonne DeKay School of Dance to perform ‘Nutcracker’ at IHS
Yvonne Dekay School of Dance, along with some special guests, will be performing The Nutcracker Saturday and Sunday at the Ironton High School auditorium.
“We used to do a different version of The Nutcracker called ‘Santa’s Version of The Nutcracker,’ but this year the children in the senior dance troop wanted to do the original, so we are going to perform the original Nutcracker,” DeKay said. “But we’ve done a Nutcracker show for about 20 years now.”
Along with her students, special guest performers will include Tri-State karate master Danny Lane, Portsmouth attorney and Bulgaria native Nikolay Mrvok, former circus performer and magician Beau Crocker, Huntington school teacher and actor Jon Lamb, and husband of area doctor, Patrick Gaynor.
“When people of the arts collaborate together, we can produce a really nice production for the community,” DeKay said.
DeKay added that not only do the students and guest performers learn about the music of The Nutcracker, they also learn about the history of the story.
DeKay’s students range in age from 2-18, and will all have a part in the show.
The first show is set for 7 p.m. Saturday and the second is 2 p.m. Sunday in the Ironton High School auditorium.
The cost is $12 and tickets are available at the studio, located at 612 S. Third St. in Ironton, or at the door. Part of the proceeds assist DeKay’s students with dance expenses for competitions.
