WESTWOOD, Ky. — Anna Darby was the bonfire and Jill Hairston was the torch.
The Rock Hill Redwomen seniors got hot on offense and ignited a 56-45 win over the Fairview Lady Eagles on Monday.
Darby had 19 points and 14 rebounds in her second straight double-double while Hairston scored 17 points including three 3-pointers as Rock Hill improved to 2-0.
“We got off to slow start. Jill and Anna heated up and gave us some breathing room,” said Rock Hill coach Greg Damron. “Jill came to play or we would have been in a bind.”
Kaykayla Scott and Maddie Scott added 7 points each in the win.
“Kyleigh Noel and Maddie Scott got in foul trouble early. We’ve got to keep ourselves out of foul trouble,” said Damron.
“But Maykayla did a great job stepping in and handling the ball. She’s going to be a good player.”
MacKenzie Humphrey had a game-high 25 points for Fairview (0-1) as she reached a milestone by scoring her 1,000th career points.
Hairston had 5 points in the first quarter as Rock Hill led 12-8.
Darby, Hairston and Maykayla Scott all scored 7 points each as Rock Hill outscored Fairview 22-10 and led 34-18 at the break.
Fairview outscored Rock Hill 15-13 in the third quarter to trail 47-33. Darby had 8 points and Hairston 5 to account for all of the Redwomen points in the quarter.

Maddie Scott got 5 points in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill halted any Fairview comeback hopes.
Rock Hill hosts Fairland on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
