Will be the first to cross new bridge
A raffle sponsored by the city of Ironton and Ironton aLive for the first person to drive across the new Ironton-Russell Bridge was won by longtime Russell resident Carol McKenzie.
The drawing took place at noon Tuesday in the Ironton Mayor’s Office.
“I was flabbergasted,” McKenzie said of winning the honor. “I’m not very lucky, so I couldn’t believe it.”
McKenzie said her brother, who is also from Russell but now lives in Florida, is in town for Thanksgiving and will ride along with her, her daughter and other family members in the first car to cross the bridge.
“Today’s (Tuesday) my daughter’s birthday, so that will be a nice birthday present for her,” McKenzie said. “I’m just so happy.”
