Jackson, McClelland fill the airways as Gallia tops Pointers

GALLIPOLIS �� It proved to be a great way to pass the time.
South Point Pointers’ quarterback Brandin Jackson and Gallipolis Blue Devils’ quarterback Justin McClelland both turned in impressive passing performances in the season finale on Friday.
McClelland and the Blue Devils came out ahead in the passing wars with a 40-24 Ohio Valley Conference win.
McClelland was 9-of-20 for 242 yards and four touchdowns while Jackson was 12-of-24 for 252 yards and four touchdowns and two interceptions.
Elijah Adams had a huge game for the Pointers with five receptions for 144 yards and four touchdowns. Cory Call did almost the same thing for the Blue Devils with five catches for 176 yards and three scores.
After a scoreless first quarter, McClelland and Call clicked on an 81-yard scoring pass and it was 6-0.
But the Pointers’ senior tandem of Jackson and Adams teamed up for 20 yards to tie the game at 6-6 with just 44 seconds left in the half.
Gallipolis scored quickly as McCelland and Call hooked up for a 9-yard TD pass with six seconds left. McClelland hit Garrett Burns for the conversion and a 14-6 lead.
Gallipolis (1-9, 1-6) pulled away to a 27-6 lead in the third quarter on a 51-yard scoring pass to Call and Clay Plymale’s 3-yard touchdown run.
South Point (0-10, 0-7) stormed back with Jackson throwing touchdown passes of 23 and 83 yards to Adams and it was now 27-18 with 7:23 to play.
The Blue Devils answered with two scores of their own as McClelland threw 22 yards to Call and Plymale broke loose on a 55-yard run with 1:46 left and it was 40-18.
South Point capped the scoring with one second to play on a 5-yard pass from Jackson the Adams.
South Point had 377 total yards. Owen Chafin ran 20 times for 83 of the Pointers 125 yards.
Gallipolis had 415 total yards including 173 on the ground. McClelland ran 15 times for 85 yards and Plymale had 72 yards on five attempts.
