Shop local for holidays

Although we have a little over a month left before the holiday shopping season kicks into full gear, something that we should never forget is the importance of shopping local.
While a larger focus is placed during the holidays, shopping locally in and around our communities should be something residents think about all year long.
Many of our communities in Lawrence County are small, and the majority of those businesses are small as well and rely on those communities to support them.
This support allows them to continue to be a sales tax revenue participant within our villages and municipalities along with being able to employ our family members and neighbors that brings in income tax revenue as well.
There are certainly instances where a local business simply might not offer a product or service that a consumer needs. But the bulk of those products or services are available at shops and stores right here at home.
But to go outside of our local area to save $20 when it will cost $20 in gas to get there and back obviously defeats the purpose.
In the end, we are close-knit communities who work together to create the best for ourselves and others that we possibly can. Part of this is supporting our local businesses.
