As part of the third phase of the Ironton storm/sanitary sewer separation project, Fifth Street is currently undergoing work between Mastin and Ashtabula Streets.
“Right now, they’re installing new storm sewers for the separation in that area,” project engineer Michael Williams, of E.L. Robinson Engineering, said. “It started around the end of August and it’s expected to be finished by the end of the year.”
Williams added that there have been problems with people not moving cars out of the way and that it’s advised traffic avoid that area during working hours, as there will be road closures.
In the near future, the same work will be done on Kemp Street between Fifth and Eighth Streets.
Tribute Contracting and Consulting, out of South Point, is working the project.
The EPA mandated storm/sanitary sewer separation project began in 2008 and is expected to be complete in 2023.
