CHESAPEAKE — With the numbers Cecil Fletcher has been putting up the last two weeks, one would think he would get the ball more often.

He would but he doesn’t give Chesapeake coach Andy Clark much of a chance to give him the ball more often.

Fletcher ran three times for 115 yards and three touchdowns and caught a pass for 25 yards and a score on Friday as he led the Panthers to a 49-0 win over the Symmes Valley Vikings.

Fletcher has racked up 268 yards rushing over the past two weeks on just eight attempts. Three of his four touchdowns against the Vikings were for 25 or more yards.

“That’s a pretty good average. He’s a threat every time he touches the ball,” said Clark.

Chesapeake (3-0) amassed 384 yards on the ground and had 60 more passing for a 444 total. The Panthers ran just 15 plays in the first half with seven resulting in touchdowns.

Symmes Valley (1-2) managed 112 total yards with Jason Sheppard running 13 times for 71 yards.

“We came out and did what we needed to do. We still have things to work on. We had more speed and we were able to utilize it. We’re doing a better job up front and our backs blocked pretty well,” said Clark. “Defensively we tackled pretty well.”

Fletcher started the scoring onslaught with a 61-yard run on the first play of the game to make it 6-0.

Casey McComas hit Fletcher with a touchdown pass and Dalton Nida’s conversion kick put the lead at 13-0 with 9:05 on the first quarter clock.

Fletcher’s 45-yard run less than three minutes later to give Chesapeake a 20-0 cushion.

J.W. Bartrum broke up the Fletcher scoring parade as he ran 3 yards just before the end of the first quarter and it was 27-0.

The scoring returned to Fletcher who ran 9 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter and the lead was 34-0.

Will Scott bolted 65 yards for a touchdown to make it 41-0 with 8:19 left in the half.

Austin Browning capped the scoring with a 74-yard run on the first play of the drive. A bad snap on the conversion forced Browning to pick up the ball and he ran for the conversion.
