Men were laborers with health department

Two city laborers working at the Ironton Health Department were recently arrested at the end of August, following an investigation by the Ironton Police Department.

Ryan Meeks, 31, of Ironton, and Jeremy Penwell, 34, of Pedro, were arrested at the health department for theft by deception for allegedly using the health department issued city gas card for personal use.

“We think this has been going on since July 2,” Ironton Police Detective Joe Ross said. “We believe approximately between $600-$800 was used on the card.”

Ross added that the pair allegedly used the card at three different gas stations throughout the city.

“The investigation is still ongoing to make sure nothing else was taken without justification,” Ross said.

Meeks and Penwell were set to appear in Ironton Municipal Court Tuesday afternoon, however, the charges have not been filed because a special prosecutor is still needed for the case.
