City electric ordinance passed

Ironton City Council passed an ordinance at its meeting Thursday, giving the city a new contract with Champion Energy Services.
Ordinance 16-35, authorizing the mayor to execute a contract with Champion Energy Services for electric service and declaring an emergency, was previously tabled to compare with other rates, but was moved off the table and adopted Thursday.
Champion Energy Services has agreed to provide the city with electric service at a significant cost saving of 4.633 cents/kWh over three years, over the previous rate of 5.7 cents/kWh.
Also at council:
A request by the Friends of Ironton for a re-permit from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control for alcohol sales at the Ro-Na was received and passed.
