HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — United Way of the River Cities and Ohio University Southern are partnering for the sixth annual Stuff the Bus event on Aug. 6.
Stuff the Bus is a way for community members to support local students. Shoppers are invited to fill buses with essential items and school supplies to distribute to students in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason and Wayne counties in West Virginia and in Lawrence County.
“We are excited to once again partner with Ohio University Southern to provide students with the tools they need to be successful,” said Andrea Roy, director of community impact for United Way of the River Cities. “We encourage members of the community to donate what they can to make a difference in these students’ lives.”
TTA buses will be at the Huntington, Barboursville, Wayne and South Point Wal-Mart Supercenters, and Tri-River Transit will provide buses at Dollar Generals located at 7350 Lynn Ave. in Hamlin, W.Va. and 4956 Midway Road in Yawkey, W.Va. on Aug. 6.
Mason County Board of Education will furnish a school bus at the Mason County Wal-Mart. Each school system has provided a list of needed items. The lists will be distributed at each location on the day of the event and are available at www.unitedwayrivercities.org/stuffbus.
All participating Wal-Marts will have copies of their local shopping lists. In Lincoln County, donations may be left at City National Bank in West Hamlin and Piggly Wiggly in Hamlin and at Dollar General in Hamlin starting on Aug. 5.
United Way of the River Cities is currently asking for event volunteers at each location to distribute shopping lists, sort items for distribution and assist with the delivery of items to their final destinations. To sign up to volunteer, visit www.unitedwevolunteer.org or call Andrea Roy at 304-523-8929, ext. 107.
Ohio University Southern will be on site to answer any questions you may have or to assist with fall applications.
