Biomass focus of foreclosure

The remaining four parcels at The Point industrial park owned by Mark Harris of Biomass are headed for the auction block again.
As before, the foreclosure sale is being organized by the county because of back taxes.
Right now, Harris owes $21,511.21 in taxes that are at least a year old, as well as those that were due this year. That figure also includes interest and penalties.
“(Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney) Brigham Anderson will do research to see if there are no other lenders that have to be notified. If not, then we will initiate a court action requesting the sale. Upon that court action we will hold a public auction and invite people to bid for the remaining parcels.”
These parcels had come up for sale in January 2015 with a representative from the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation at the courthouse getting ready to bid. But Harris made an 11th hour payment on the delinquent taxes on the parcels to keep them from being sold.
Originally, there were six parcels with back taxes. But two of them were pulled from that auction because the prosecutor’s office had learned that there was a mortgage on them that needed to be investigated.
However, in November the LEDC was able to buy those two for $2,903.91 and $6,546.34 respectively. Those parcels that had been the site of landfills were purchased for safety reasons.
No date has been set for this sale.
“That is completely up to the prosecutor,” Burcham said.
