Ironton native Gregory King was named the 2016 Senior Citizen of the Year at the Ironton Senior Center.
“Greg lives in an apartment upstairs, but comes down quite a bit to play cards and always goes on our outings,” Melinda Nance, coordinator of senior services at the center, said. “We choose a winner around this time every year and we kind of watch them throughout the year and see how they participate in things at the center.”
King said he never gave winning the award much thought prior to finding out he was chosen, but he was happy to receive the honor.
A ribbon and a bible were given to King.
Among the things King said he enjoys about the senior center are the lunches, playing cards on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Bible studies and church services on Wednesday and Sunday nights, which King started at the center.
