Pancake breakfast added to list of special events
The annual Ironton Gus Macker tournament will take over the streets of downtown next weekend, as 180 teams from throughout the country are set to take part.
“Basketball is very popular in this area, and the popularity of the event is growing,” Beth Campbell, Ironton Gus Macker chairman, said.
Besides the actual tournament on Saturday and Sunday, Friday night will feature special events, including a hot shot contest, 3-point contest, free throw contest and a contest for a long distance heave. Sign-ups are at 6:30 p.m. Friday, and age groups for the contests are 12 and under, 13-17 and 18 and over. Each contest costs $1 to enter and prizes will be awarded to each winner.
There will be a pancake breakfast from 8:30-11 a.m. on Saturday at the Ro-Na Theater for $5, which will also feature Gus Macker founder Scott McNeal.
For guests at the tournament, Dr. Dekay’s House of Screams will be offered in the basement of the Ro-Na for a $5 entrance fee.
All proceeds from the contests, pancake breakfast and Dr. Dekay’s House of Screams go back to the Friends of Ironton for the restoration of the Ro-Na Theater.
