Lady Tigers outscore Lady Pointers

Aley Carmon hit a grand slam home run and the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers belted out 11 hits including four doubles as they downed the South Point Lady Pointers 11-7 on Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Carmon was 2-2 with four runs batted in plus a double and Katie Burcham was 3-4 with a double to lead the offense.

Haylee Stevens was 2-4 with a double, Kylie Barcus 2-4, Zjaytayia Mize 1-1 and Shay Cox 1-3 with a double and two RBIs.

β€œIt was a good win. Katie Burcham was impressive at the plate. She had been in a bit of a slump and lost some confidence. It was good for her to get back in the groove,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

β€œI am super proud of Aley Carmon. She just keeps being a team player. She was intentionally walked two times but was still patient at the plate and hit a double and a grand slam. It was awesome.”

South Point had eight hits with Sara Allen going 3-4 with a home run and two doubles. Emilee Powell was 2-3 with two doubles, Haley Rawlins 2-3 and Abby Hannah had a three-run homer.

South Point took a 1-0 lead to start the game on a double by Allen and sacrifice bunts by Powell and Rawlins.

Ironton (12-7, 7-3) came back to take the lead in the bottom of the inning.

Stevens doubled, Barcus singled and Kenzie Cremeens grounded out as a run scored and Barcus scored on the throw to first base.

South Point came back to regain the lead with two runs in the third when Jamishua Anderson drew a one-out walk and Allen belted a two-run homer.

But Ironton answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-3.

Cremeens walked and Carmon doubled her home. Ruthie Paholsky walked and Cox had an RBI double. Two outs later Mize singled in a run.

The lead went to 7-3 in the fourth.

Cremeens and Carmon walked and Paholsky grounded out for an RBI. Cox walked and Burcham spanked an RBI single.

Allen and Powell doubled to get the Lady Pointers within 7-4 in the top of the fifth, but Carmon delivered the decisive blow.

Mize was hit by a pitch, Stevens singled and Cremeens walked for the third time to load the bases. Carmon then unloaded her grand slam for an11-4 lead.

South Point got three runs in the top of the seventh when Hannah hit a home run after Powell doubled and Keiana Conwell was hit by a pitch.
