COAL GROVE –– For a second straight year, the Dawson-Bryant High School prom committee is hosting the Miss Lawrence County pageant Saturday at the high school in an effort to raise money for the school’s junior/senior prom.

This year’s prom committee is made up of junior class officers Chase Johnson, president, Luke Paulus, vice president, Jacob Bentley, treasurer, Kyle Vanbibber, secretary, and Shelby Sparks, junior class representative. Each serves the same role on student council as well.

“We wanted to continue the tradition as well as raise money for the prom in order to keep costs low for students,” Traci Hunt, junior class adviser, said. “The success of last year’s pageant enabled ticket prices to be up to $40 cheaper than other schools, and we want to continue offering low price tickets so more students can afford to attend. But we need participants to make this happen.”

Categories for the pageant include Baby Miss/Mister for children under 12 months, Miss/Mister Tiny Tot for children under the age of 23 months, Mini Miss/Mister for children 2-3 years old, Tiny Miss/Mister for children 4-5 years old, Little Miss for girls only ages 6-7, Junior Miss for girls only ages 8-10, Young Lady Miss for girls only ages 11-12, Young Miss for girls only ages 13-14 and Miss for girls only ages 15-18. Each category is a glam event. There is also a photogenic contest with a nature theme of the same categories. The cost to enter either one is $45, or $70 to enter in both.

Winners will take home a crown, sash, flowers, a place in the Memorial Day and Christmas parades and other opportunities to get involved in the community.

Applications for the pageant can be accessed on the Miss Lawrence County Facebook page, Miss Lawrence County Pageant, and can be electronically submitted, all high schools in the county and various Coal Grove businesses. You can also register by stopping in to Dawson-Bryant High School, and the registration deadline is Friday.
