BURLINGTON –– The Fayette Township Speedway store next to Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club won’t be selling alcohol after a recount Monday determined no change in results.
Burlington Precinct 3 voters faced two issues regarding the matter on their March 15 Primary ballots; one for alcohol sales Monday through Friday and one for Sunday alcohol sales.
The Sunday sales failed on election night with 144 votes against for 53.93 percent of the vote to 123 votes in favor for 46.07 percent. Monday through Saturday sales were too close to call on election night with 135 votes opposing for 50.37 percent of the vote to 133 votes in favor for 49.63 percent.
“The recount saw the exact same results for alcohol sales Monday through Saturday,” Mark McCown, of the Lawrence County Board of Elections, said. “So that means it fails.”
