BEAVER — This was one fight where the gloves didn’t come off.
The Green Bobcats used a strong defensive effort to back the pitching of Josh Karshner as they blanked the Eastern Eagles 4-0 on Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
Karshner pitched a six-hitter and struck out just three, so his defense recorded the other 18 outs and made only one error.
“It was a cold, blustery night but it was a well-played game by both teams. I was real impressed with our defense. We wore the gloves well tonight and we had another strong outing by Josh Karshner,” said Green coach Dan McDavid
Green (4-5, 3-0) had 10 hits with Karshner going 2-4 with two runs batted in. Trevor Carver and Tyler Johnson each went 2-3.
The Bobcats got a run in the first inning. With one out, Rylee Maynard singled, stole second and Karshner singled him home.
The lead went to 3-0 in the fifth.
Tanner Kimbler walked to start the inning, Maynard sacrificed him to second, Tayte Carver singled and Karshner singled for a run. Trevor Carver followed with a sacrifice fly.
The final run scored in the sixth when Tyler Darnell singled, stole second, went to third on a fly ball, Zach Garrett walked and Darnell came home on a double steal.
The two teams play at Green on Wednesday.
