Zips hit record 20 3-pointers to beat Ohio for MAC regular season crown

AKRON (AP) — Reggie McAdams scored 21 points, Kwan Cheatham Jr. had a double-double and Akron made a school record 20 3-pointers to beat Ohio 91-76 on Tuesday night for the Mid-American regular season title.

Cheatham also finished with 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. McAdams hit seven 3-pointers and Cheatham added five — both tying career-highs — as Akron made a school record 20 of 42.

The Zips tied their previous school record of 19 3-pointers last Friday against Bowling Green. They’re a combined 39 of 84 (46 percent) in the last two games.

Former Waverly star Jake Kretzer chipped in with three 3-pointers and had 11 points for Akron (23-7, 12-5).

Jaaron Simmons led Ohio (19-10, 10-7) with 25 points. The Bobcats were 8 of 25 from 3-point range and were outrebounded 47-28.

Akron hosts Kent State in a regular-season finale on Friday before entering the MAC tournament as the No. 1 seed.
