HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Evidently, the Coal Grove Hornets are not morning people.
Playing the 10:30 a.m. game in The Huntington Classic at Big Sandy Arena on Saturday, the Hornets’ offense never woke up in a 49-28 loss to the Teays Valley Christian Lions.
Jeb Jones scored nine points to lead the Hornets (5-11).
The Lions (15-7) had three players in double figures led by Danny Vitiello with 12 points and Nenah Kiameso and Mark Iwanowicz getting 10 each.
Coal Grove trailed just 10-8 after the first quarter, but got only six points — they were 4-of-6 at the foul line — in the second quarter and trailed 27-14 at the half.
Jones scored six of the Hornets’ eight points in the third quarter as the Lion went up 37-22.
Coal Grove hosts Portsmouth Wednesday in a make-up game.
