PROCTORVILLE — When you’re hot, you’re hot. And when you’re not, you’re not.

That was the easiest way to describe the hot-shooting Fairland Dragons who cruised past the cold-shooting Coal Grove Hornets 60-19 on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Fairland was 25-of-40 from the field for 62.5 percent including 22-of-32 from two-point range for nearly 69 percent.

Conversely, Coal Grove (4-10, 2-8) struggled from the field. The Hornets were 7-of-44 from the floor for 16 percent including 3-of-15 from behind the arc for 20 percent. They were just 2-of-8 from the foul line.

Kollin Van Horn had 14 points and four rebounds to lead the first-place Dragons (12-2, 9-0). Luke Thomas had 10 points while Isaiah Howell grabbed eight rebounds and had five assists.

Jeb Jones had four points and seven rebounds for Coal Grove (4-10, 2-8).

Van Horn scored eight points as Fairland took a 19-5 first quarter lead.

The Dragons outscored the Hornets 10-0 in the second quarter and it was 29-5 at the half.

Hayden James scored all five of his points in the third quarter as Fairland extended its lead to 43-15.

Coal Grove plays Cabell Midland at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday and Teays Valley Christian at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Big Sandy Arena in the Huntington Classic.

Fairland plays Hill Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Friday and Mingo County at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Huntington Classic.
