The Transit Café should be back in business next month.
County residents Lori Bond and Carol Kelley are the new operators of the diner that had formerly been manned by clients of the board of developmental disabilities.
However at the end of December the board decided the cost to operate the restaurant outweighed the profits.
“They are good friends and they kind of approached us,” said Ralph Kline assistant executive director of the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization. “We had several different people to approach us.”
The women will lease the diner from the Lawrence County Port Authority.
“I think they are looking to keeping it as it is currently and adding to it,” Kline said.
The café will continue to serve breakfast and lunch.
“They may do some catering using the buildings there and the senior room next door at Park Avenue,” Kline said.
The re-opening is scheduled for Feb. 1.
