Gloria Hogsten

Dec. 30, 1926 — Dec. 1, 2015

Gloria Alice Blagg Hogsten, 88, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, Kentucky. The Ironton native was born Dec. 30, 1926, a daughter of the late John W. and Daisy Crowe Blagg.

Gloria was a 1944 graduate of Ironton High School and was an office clerk at the Semet-Solvay Plant for 10 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Ironton for over 50 years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale E. “Sonny” Hogsten; three brothers, Vallee W., Anthony and Richard L. Blagg; and a sister, Luanne Blagg.

Gloria is survived by daughter, Debra Kitchen, of Ironton; daughter, Brenda Pyles, of Portsmouth; son, Andy (Joyce) Hogsten, of Coal Grove; five grandchildren, Michelle (Greg) Lyons, of South Shore, Kentucky, J.D. Kitchen, of Ironton, David Pyles, of Shelbyville, Kentucky, Rebecca (James) Strzelinski, of Chicago, Illinois and Mary Pyles, of Athens; and a great-granddaughter, Juliette Lyons, of South Shore, Kentucky.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with minister Willie Purdee officiating and burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Wilma Bennett

Feb. 8, 1927 — Dec. 2, 2015

Wilma Ruth Bennett, 88, of Willow Wood, went home to be with her Lord, Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at the St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. The Willow Wood native was born Feb. 8, 1927, a daughter of the late Owen and Amanda Louella Miller Roach.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Henry Bennett, whom she married March 20, 1948, and he passed away Sept. 8, 1995.

Mrs. Bennett was a 1945 graduate of Waterloo High School. She was a former employee of Dickess Market, of Aid, as well as being a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, cooking for family, friends and neighbors.She also enjoyed being with grandchildren and great grandchildren and was one of the founding members of the Trinity Baptist Church in Wilgus.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Inez Taylor and Eloise Myers; and a brother, Herschel Roach.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth (Keith) Williams, of Ironton, and Janet (Jerry) Hale, of Kitts Hill; three grandchildren, Ellisha (Chad) Canter, of Franklin Furnace, and Scott Williams and Timothy (Viktoriia) Williams, all of Ironton; four great-grandchildren, Brady Ellis Canter, of Franklin Furnace, Thomas Williams, Matthew Williams, both of Ironton, and Madison Williams, of Kitts Hill; two sisters, Sharon (Jim) Mayberry, of Chesapeake and Verna McCarty, of Kitts Hill; a brother, Clarence (Julia) Reisinger, of Kitts Hill; and a sister-in-law, Ann Roach, of Jackson.

She is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Baptist Church State Route 775 in Wilgus with the Rev. Roy Adkins and the Rev. Chris Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Aid Cemetery and visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, is assisting the family with the arrangements. Pallbearers will be Scott Williams, Timothy Williams, Matthew Williams, Thomas Williams, Chad Canter Jerry Hale and Keith Williams. Edith Bryant

Edith Carmella Bryant, 70, of Proctorville, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at home.  Funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Sunday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.  Burial will follow in Miller Memorial Gardens, Miller.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.timeformemory.com/hall.

 

Barbara Bing

Barbara J. Bing, 66, of Milton, West Virginia, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, West Virginia.  Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

 

Nell Hughes

Nov. 6, 1925 — Dec. 2, 2015

Nell Alene VanHoose Hughes, 90, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Bon Secure Maria Manor in St. Petersburg, Florida at 10:20 a.m. Mrs. Hughes was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Hitchens, Kentucky. Nell Alene was a daughter to the late Thomas and Eula (VanHoose) Parsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Paul Hughes, in 1988.

Mrs. Hughes attended and graduated from Oak Hill High School. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Ironton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis and Woodrow Parsons; and sister, Ann McClellan.

She is survived by four daughters, Jeannie Earhart, of Largo Florida, Judy Rowe, of Bradenton, Florida, Susan (Paul) Unger, of St. Petersburg, Florida and Terri (Gary) Vincelette, of Bradenton, Florida; two sons, Bill Hughes, of St. Petersburg, Florida and David (Robyn) Hughes, of Bradenton, Florida; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Yates, of Russell, Kentucky; and brother, Bill Parsons, of Coal Grove.

Paul Bicker

Paul Eugene Bricker, 79, of Chesapeake, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015, at Heartland of Riverview, South Point. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville.

 

Shellye Townsend

Shellye Horn Townsend, 38, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, in University of Kentucky Medical Center. She is survived by her husband, Doug Townsen, of Huntington, West Virginia.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christ Temple Church, Huntington, West Virginia. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Kenneth Tschop, Sr.

Kenneth Lee Tschop, Sr., 83, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Wyngate at Rivers Edge, Proctorville.

Dick L. Fletcher, 63, of Ironton, formerly of Billings, Montana, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, at Cornerstone Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia.
