SOUTH POINT — In a joint effort, Slack and Wallace Funeral Home and People for the Point will sponsor a yoga session at 7 p.m. tonight at the South Point Community Park.
“We’re trying to do more community programs that focus on health and wellness,” Chris Smith, president of People for the Point, said. “This is another way to get the community out and active.”
Smith added that the yoga class is for anybody, not just for people of South Point.
Since Slack and Wallace Funeral Home offers yoga for grieving purposes every couple of months as a workshop and free yoga class every Thursday, the funeral home wanted to help with the event.
“Our weekly yoga classes have been such a success, I wanted to give back to the community,” Beth Wallace McNearney, co-owner of the funeral home, said. “It’s donation-based and we wanted that to go to People for the Point.”
Jessica Hensley, a yoga instructor trainee at Brown Dog Yoga in Huntington, will teach the class. Hensley also teaches all of the classes offered at the funeral home.
“If it goes well, maybe we’ll have one of these once a month in the park,” McNearney said. “Or have donation based classes at the funeral home when the weather gets bad.”
The class will meet at the gazebo in the park at 7 p.m. and McNearney said it should last about an hour.
