Reaching out to each other

At some point or another, we all need a helping hand.
Whether it is a neighbor or co-worker who helps finish a project, or a family member who helps in a variety of aspects. That is exactly the case for the food giveaway hosted by the Facing Hunger Foodbank who lent a helping hand to Lawrence County residents.
These types of events are important for residents throughout Lawrence County and the region who are in need of help to ensure their families do not go hungry.
For many families, the ability to put meals on the table can seem like an insurmountable task, and events like this can take some of the stress and worry away.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Lawrence County has 18.4 percent of residents below the federal poverty level, and that is nearly 3 percent higher than the state and federal level of 15.8 percent and 15.4 percent, respectively.
We applaud the efforts of those organizations and volunteers who work to gather and distribute the food to those in need along with those local businesses who make donations that allow these events to be possible.
The ability to continue to work together and help our fellow residents makes Lawrence County special.
