CHESAPEAKE — Special needs youth will have the chance to experience the outdoors during a fishing event this Saturday.
This will be the second year for the event sponsored by Special Needs Youth Sportsmen Inc.
All fishing equipment will be provided to the youth free to fish in a private pond stocked with catfish. There will be no limit to the number of fish they can catch. Each fisherman for the day will have a Sportsmen volunteer available to assist in any way.
“Our goal is to give these kids an opportunity to fish,” Buddy Fry, president of the local Sportsmen chapter, said. “Especially if their families don’t have the means to take them out on their own.”
The event starts at 8 a.m. at a farm off Buffalo Creek Road and will run until 11 a.m. when a lunch will be served, including fish caught if the young sportsmen want. Signs along State Route 7 and Buffalo Creek Road will give directions.
There will also be a caravan to the lake meeting at Tractor Supply in Chesapeake at 7:30 a.m. For more information call 740-646-6400 or 304-962-2709.
“I like the fact we have the means and ability to help these kids do something in the outdoor world,” Fry said.
