FRANKLIN FURNACE — The Green Bobcats are making a habit of it.
Playing in their third one-run game and second in as many days, the Bobcats slipped past the St. Joseph Flyers 4-3 on Saturday.
“We lost a heartbreaker last night (4-3 in the bottom of the seventh) and today we win a one-run game,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
“We’ve played in a lot of close games so we know how to play in those types of games.”
Green (3-3) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on just one hit.
Ben Vance, Tyler Darnell, Josh Karshner and Trevor Carver all walked to produce a run and Tyler Johnson had a two-out, two-run single to cap the rally.
St. Joseph (4-4) got a run back in the second when Chris Lewis reached on an error, Peyton Adkins walked, Jacob Clark was safe on an error to load the bases and a balk.
Green scored what proved to be the winning run in the third when Josh Clark doubld and pinch-hitter Dakota Martin singled him home.
The Flyers rallied for two runs in the sixth.
Adkins was safe on an error, Jacob Clark doubled and Chase Walters hit a sacrifice fly.
Zac McGraw walked and teamed with Clark to pull off a double steal as Clark scored.
Karshner pitched a four-hitter to get the win. He struck out five and walked three.
Clay Willis and Bradley Rist combined on a five-hitter for the Flyers. Willis fanned five and walked four. Rist struck out six and did not walk a batter.
The Flyers’ Daniel Davidson was the only multi-hit batter as he went 2-for-4.
St. Joseph hosts Raceland, Ky., on Monday.
