AID — Pitching. There’s nothing like it.

The Symmes Valley Vikings got two strong games from their pitchers as they swept a Southern Ohio Conference doubleheader from the Eastern Eagles on Saturday, 4-2 and 6-0.

Dillon McFann allowed four hits, struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter in winning the opener.

Trent Thompson threw the nightcap and also threw a four-hitter as he struck out 10 and did not issue a walk. He hit one batter.

“McFann threw well and the defense played well behind him. Dillon has been solid all year,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe. “Trent threw well. He had real good control and that was the key for him.”

Tanner Mays led the offense I both games. He was 2-for-3 with a home run and a double in the first game and went 3-4 with a double in the second game.

“He had two good games for us. He’s starting to get comfortable at the plate,” said Renfroe.

The Vikings scored three runs in the first inning of the first game when Payton Hayes and McFann walked and Mays unloaded his home run.

The Vikings added a run in the second inning on an error after loading the bases on hits by Laykin Gothard and Hayes and a walk to McFann.

Symmes Valley (4-0, 3-0) jumped out to a lead in the first inning of the second game.

Hayes walked, McFann reached on an error, a ground out scored Hayes and another error scored McFann.

The lead went to 4-0 in the fourth when McFann reached on a fielder’s choice, Mays singled, Cameron Meadows had an RBI single and an error scored the second run.

The final two runs scored in the fifth.

Blake Bowen was hit by a pitch, McFann walked and Mays cracked a two-run double.

The Vikings host Western on Monday in a league game.
