The Ro-Na Theater begins two weeks chocked full of events with a concert by new local band Day of the Sun.
Doors will open at 7 p.m. tonight for the 8:30 p.m. performance.
“Think Executive Chef meets Syrinix,” Bill Patrick, band member, said about the group’s sound.
No tickets are being sold for the free show.
Day of the Sun is a new project from band members Terry Rowe, drums, Patrick, lead guitar, Tommy Woods, vocals, and Alan Bowman, bass. Woods and Patrick are also band mates in Executive Chef.
“The four of us have been playing together for many years,” Woods said. “We decided to get together and do something and see how we do. In our first session we played seven songs together.”
The group plays old and new songs from across the musical spectrum and, Woods said, some original songs are in the works.
“We started playing together in mid-July and thought by the first of the year we could play somewhere, preferably the Ro-Na,” Woods said. “Before I could contact (Friends of Ironton president) Rick Jansen, he contacted us.”
Woods and Patrick have performed at the Ro-Na in the past with Executive Chef.
Day of the Sun will perform in the bar area because the auditorium is undergoing HVAC and electrical upgrades.
