COAL GROVE — Members of the Coal Grove Memorial United Methodist Church are having a Christmas bazaar to raise money to buy new heating and air units for the building.

“Our current heating and air units are more than 50 years old,” Linda McKnight, president of the church’s Reach Group, said. “When anything is that old, things go wrong.”

McKnight said not only is the current system expensive to repair, but it is getting increasingly difficult to locate needed parts. She estimates the new units would cost a minimum of $20,000.

The bazaar is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Dawson-Bryant High School cafeteria.

“Our fellowship hall at the church is nice and it works great for everyday use,” McKnight said. “But it is small and having events like this at the church makes it hard because it is so small. The kitchen is small, too.”

Food will be served throughout the day and for a $5 lunch ticket one can get soup, a sandwich, dessert and a drink. Available soups will be potato, broccoli and vegetable and sandwiches are either a hot dog or chicken croissant. Food items can also be purchased separately.

Several vendors have registered to be at the bazaar and the church’s booth will be selling candy, cakes, cookies, pies and holiday crafts, McKnight said.

“We do whatever we can for people,” McKnight said of the church’s congregation. “The way I see it, we do things for people and God rewards us.”

Lunch tickets are available from any church member and will also be sold at the door during the bazaar. Vendors can register a booth by calling Megan Jenkins at the church at 740-532-5610. Cost for a booth is $20.
