COAL GROVE — The annual Dawson-Bryant High School Veterans Day assembly is set for 10 a.m. on Monday.
Derek Parsons, history teacher and history club adviser, said the event, which is presented by the history club, is one of the more popular assemblies offered at the school throughout the year.
“This is the sixth or seventh year we have had the Veterans Day assembly and it has grown every year,” he said. “The students are very well-behaved during this assembly because we have veterans in the crowd and the students respect the veterans.”
During the assembly, Parsons said, veterans will be recognized, there will be several speakers and poems will be recited. The school’s Christian Youth Association will perform an interpretive black light dance to Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the U.S.A.”
“It’s many people’s favorite day of the school year,” Parsons said. “The students seem to really like interacting with the veterans at the luncheon following the assembly.”
There will also be several student activities as well as a surprise announcement.
