Dental premiums go higher
The new rates for customers at the Union-Rome Sewer District will go into effect Dec. 1.
That was the decision Lawrence County Commissioners made at their regular Thursday meeting.
About a week ago the commissioners unanimously approved lowering the district rates by $2.49 a month, making a typical bill now $49.99 for users of 4,500 gallons.
The commission also reduced the penalty for nonpayment from 15 percent monthly to annually.
On top of that Commissioner Freddie Hayes has set up a committee, chaired by Dr. Bill Dingus, executive director of the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation, to review tap fees.
Hayes said the first meeting of that committee should be later this month.
Also at the meeting the commission approved new rates for the Humana Dental policy renewal. The new monthly premium for an employee is $20.36, up from $19.85; employee and spouse is now $45.58, up from $44.41; employee and child, $47.33 up from $46.34; and family, $73.24, up from $71.50.
In other action the commission:
• Accepted the resignation of part-time paramedic Samantha Miller
• Approved the promotion of Timothy McMaster from part-time to full-time EMT;
• Approved the transfer of 2006 Ford 350 ambulance to the Lawrence County Sheriff;
• Approved advertising for bids to replace the roof on the courthouse annex that was damaged during this past winter;
• Approved the agreement to replace the chiller condenser fan motor at the courthouse for $2,699;
• Approved advertising for a public hearing on re-employing Terry Porter at the department of job and family services.
