CIRCLEVILLE — The Chesapeake Panthers found a silver lining.
While the Panthers failed to qualify for the Division II state golf tournament, sophomore Derek Lemley did advance individually.
Chesapeake was fifth overall Wednesday at the Pickaway Country Club, but Lemley was second overall among individuals with a 71 to earn a state tournament trip.
The top two teams and the top two individuals not on a qualifying team advance to the state tournament.
Fairfield Union shot a 317 to win the team championship. New Lexington was next at 324 followed by Unioto at 325, Chesapeake and Piketon both shot a 329 but Piketon was fourth based on the fifth player’s score.
Warren was next at 334, Gallipolis 334, Lynchburg-Clay 361, Washington Court House 366, and Portsmouth 367.
Caleb Arnold of Zane Trace shot a 70 to take medalist honors and get the other state tournament berth.
Besides Lemley, senior Shane Stevens shot an 82, freshman Jake Stevens 87, senior Jacob Henson 89 and junior Austin Hutchison 97.
Ironton senior Jaylen Thornhill tied for 33rd overall with an 88 on rounds of 46-42.
Rock Hill freshman Logan Reed was tied for No. 51 with a 95.
