Pair of competitions set for Saturday
Lawrence County will be a haven for high school band fans on Saturday when Dawson-Bryant and Rock Hill high schools each host invitational band competitions.
The annual Dawson-Bryant Marching Band Invitational begins at 11 a.m. on the high school football field where nine area bands will compete.
“All the bands are from southern Ohio,” Tom Zerkle, Dawson-Bryant band director, said. “Many of the bands will go from our competition to another.”
Zerkle anticipates the Dawson-Bryant competition lasting until 2:15 p.m., at which point the band will make the trip up State Route 93 to the Rock Hill Band Invitational that begins at 4 p.m.
After a 13-year hiatus the Rock Hill competition resumed last year. At Rock Hill, bands will vie for placement in multiple classes as well as first and second-place awards for percussion. A grand champion and reserve champion will also be named.
