There will be a community day at the Native Plant Garden at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton on Saturday.
The garden was created at the new emergency room to showcase native plants in an environment that will eventually be virtually maintenance-free.
From 9-10:45 a.m. will be weeding and planting of additional species under the direction of Frank Porter of Porterbrook Gardens in Meigs County. Porter is the designer of the garden.
From 11a.m.-noon Porter will offer a lecture on how to use native plants in landscaping or flower gardens at home. Those interested can bring a photo of their yard for Porter to make suggestions of possible plantings. This will be in the first floor conference room at St. Mary’s.
From noon-1 p.m. will be lunch outside.
The garden was funded from grants from the Ohio EPA, Foundation of the Tri-State and the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization.
