HECLA — The purpose of “Community Day” at Upper Township Fire Department this Saturday is to show appreciation for the support the department has received.
“We wanted to do this free event for the community to thank everyone for supporting the levies we use to operate,” J.D. Pancake, chief of Upper Township Fire Department, said. “We want to let everyone see firsthand what the station looks like and that the tax dollars we are spending are being put to good use.”
There are two levies that generate $56,000 annually the station uses to operate. Pancake said the levy-generated funds go toward utilities, the payment on the building, workers’ compensation, insurance and fuel for the trucks. The department has also received three grants totaling $25,000 this year, Pancake said.
Community Day is from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. this Saturday and is completely free. There will be live singing, hot dogs, chips, soft drinks and beans made by Debbie Rogers, a smoke trailer, inflatables and many other activities.
Air Evac Lifeteam and Backpack Buddies will also be at the event.
“Bring your children out for a day of fun,” Pancake said.
