An Ironton man who was shot after breaking into a Kitts Hill home will spend more than a decade behind bars for his crimes.
Joseph Willis, 37, of 1219 Penobscot Trail, was sentenced Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Judge Charles Cooper’s courtroom.
Cooper sentenced Willis to a total of 12 years in prison for three charges of second-degree burglary and one third-degree count of grand theft.
Willis was arrested in March after breaking into a home in Kitts Hill. The homeowner shot Willis after which point Willis fled the scene.
A grand jury did not indict the homeowner, who it felt acted in self-defense.
The other burglary charges stem from separate incidents at different homes. The grand theft charge is related to the theft of a firearm from another individual.
In an unrelated case, a Coal Grove man accused of strong-arming a man with two others back in January was given his final plea offer.
Jason Adams, 32, of 116 Rowe St., is charged with a first-degree count of aggravated robbery, a charges that carries with it a maximum of 11 years in prison.
Prosecuting attorney Brigham Anderson offered seven years in prison if Adams would plead guilty. Adams rejected the offer through his attorney, Warren Morford.
Jury selection for the trial will begin Wednesday.
