Defendants answer charges in CP court

The dockets of Lawrence County’s common pleas court were filled Wednesday as defendants answered charges for a variety of crimes.
James Adams, 34, of 2439 Micklethwait Road, Portsmouth, was arraigned on second-degree trafficking in drugs (heroin) and fifth-degree possession of drugs (Oxycontin), to which he pleaded not guilty.
Judge Charles Cooper set continued bond from a lower court and added a $25,000 own-recognizance bond. A pretrial was set for Sept. 17.
Larry Farmer, 63, of 2516 S. Sixth St., Ironton, was arraigned on a third-degree count of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and misdemeanor counts of OVI, driving under OVI suspension, resisting arrest and reckless operation, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Cooper continued bond from a lower court and added a $25,000 OR bond. A pretrial was set for Sept. 17.
Charles Cordle, 56, of 601 Gartrell St., Ashland, Ky., was arraigned on a bill of information of fifth-degree possession of drugs, to which he pleaded not guilty. Cooper set a $25,000 cash or surety bond and set a pretrial for Sept. 24.
Chester Stamper Jr., 54, of 111 N. Seventh St., Ironton, was arraigned on a bill of information of three fifth-degree counts of possession of drugs, to which he pleaded not guilty. Cooper set a $25,000 cash or surety bond and set a pretrial for Sept. 24.
Jeremy Boll, 33, of 369, Township Road 332, Ironton, was arraigned on a third-degree count of endangering children, to which he pleaded not guilty. Cooper continued bond from a lower court and set a pretrial for Sept. 24.
Joseph Settle, 36, of 301 Township Road 276N, South Point, was arraigned on a count of third-degree endangering children, to which he pleaded not guilty. Cooper continued bond from a lower court and set a pretrial for Sept. 24.
Bryan Patrick, 26, of 622 Lane St., Coal Grove, was arraigned on a third-degree count of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and misdemeanor counts of driving under OVI suspension and speeding, to which he pleaded not guilty. Cooper continued bond from a lower court and added a $25,000 OR bond. A pretrial was set for Sept. 17.
Bryson Gruber, 22, of 112 County Road 105, Kitts Hill, was arraigned on a bill of information of fifth-degree theft, to which he pleaded guilty. Retired Judge Richard Walton, filling in for Judge D. Scott Bowling, ordered a presentence investigation before sentencing at a later date.
Shayla Perkins, 22, of 3341 State Route 243, Ironton, pleaded guilty to a fifth-degree count of forgery. Walton ordered a PSI and set sentencing for Sept. 17.
Jarrod McKinney, 34, of 38 Township Road 1321, Proctorville, was arraigned on one fourth- and two fifth-degree counts of trafficking in drugs, to which he pleaded guilty. Walton ordered a PSI and set sentencing on a later date.
John Barnhart Jr., 53, of 337 Township Road 204, Willow Wood, was arraigned on a third- and fourth-degree count of trafficking in drugs and a fourth-degree count of complicity to trafficking in drugs, to which he pleaded not guilty. Walton set bond at $50,000 own-recognizance plus GPS and set a pretrial for Sept. 24.
George Newman, 34, of 8217 Ponderosa Court, Ashland, Ky., admitted probation violations and was sentenced to one year in prison.
Katey Hinton, 32, of 561 County Road 171, Scottown, was arraigned on two fourth-degree counts of complicity to trafficking in drugs, to which she pleaded not guilty. Walton set bond at $50,000 OR plus GPS and set a pretrial for Sept. 17.
Joseph Brewer, 57, of 561 County Road 171, Scottown, was arraigned on two fourth-degree counts of trafficking in drugs, to which he pleaded not guilty. Walton set bond at $50,000 OR plus GPS and set a pretrial for Sept. 17.
Charles Cooley, 36, of South Point, was arraigned on a third-degree count of tampering with evidence and misdemeanor possession of drug abuse instruments, to which he pleaded not guilty. Walton continued bond from a lower court and added a $10,000 OR bond. A pretrial was set for Sept. 24.
Harvey McCune, 50, and Amber McCune, 28, both of 117 Ashland Drive Apt. A, South Point, were each arraigned on a misdemeanor count of assault, to which the pleaded not guilty.
Walton set a $5,000 bond for each and scheduled pretrials for Sept. 24.
Brittany Hale, 25, of 2317 Wilson Ave., St. Albans, W.Va., was arraigned on two second-degree counts of forgery and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia, to which she pleaded not guilty. A pretrial was set for Sept. 17.
