JoLinda Haeberlin, owner of Jo-Lin Health Center in Ironton, on Friday celebrated her birthday by accepting the Ice Bucket Challenge.
The challenge is a phenomenon that’s sweeping the country since hitting the social media circuit earlier this month.
The challenge involves people getting doused with buckets of ice water on video, posting that video to social media, then nominating others to do the same, all in an effort to raise ALS awareness. People can either accept the challenge or make a donation to an ALS (often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) charity of their choice, or do both.
“I’m proud to do this,” Haeberlin said. “I am glad to donate (to ALS research) in the name of my employees and all of my residents.”
Haeberlin was challenged by Lori Weber and she challenged Ironton High School Principal Joe Rowe, Ironton Athletic Director Mark Lafon and Ironton Superintendent Dean Nance.
Haeberlin’s son, Rick, took the challenge alongside his mother after being challenged by Pebbles McKinzie. He challenged his children, Nick and Natalie.
To date donations from the Ice Bucket Challenge have raised more than $53 million for ALS research.
