SOUTH POINT — A distribution center for a Horsham, Pa.-based bakery will open at The Point industrial park in the next few months.
Bimbo Bakeries USA distribution center will serve the region from the South Point-based park from a 40,000 square foot building. The eighth-month construction project started this month. It should be completed mid-winter and is being built by Mullins Construction of Wheelersburg. That bid came in at little over $3 million.
Bimbo is noted for providing such brands as Entenmann’s sweet baked goods, Thomas’ English muffins, Boboli pizza and Arnold’s and Brownberry breads. About three years ago Bimbo purchased Sara Lee breads division. Sara Lee is the owner of Huntington, W.Va.-based Heiner’s Bakery, formerly a multi generational privately owned family business.
“I can truly say we are pleased it joins Ken API and FedEx and other logistics firms in recognizing the value of The Point to the Tri-State,” said Dr. Bill Dingus, executive director of the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation. This is the 14th building that LEDC has built or partnered with. Currently The Point provides employment to 750 Tri-State residents.
