Margaritaville is a fictional village that Jimmy Buffet “wasted” away at in his hit song by the same name. It’s also the name of a series of casual dining restaurants owned by Buffet in tourist destinations across the globe.
But, for a few hours on Thursday, Margaritaville was located at 2932 S. Fifth St. The Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley hosted a Jimmy Buffet Day for its residents with music and, of course, margaritas and other refreshments.
“Oh they are having a great time,” Debbie Osbourne, activities director at the Sanctuary, said. “We try and do things with them on a pretty regular basis to keep them entertained.”
The idea for an event based around the famous beach tunes of Buffet came about last year.
“This is our first Jimmy Buffet Day,” Osbourne said. “But last year we did a Hawaiian theme and that went over really well. So we wanted to do something similar this year but a little bit different.”
The residents enjoyed the music and the drinks while a few even danced along to the Buffet hit “Little Miss Magic.”
“I’m having a really good time,” Sarah Langdon said as she swayed to the music. “If I had to complain the only thing I’d complain about is that the music is a little too loud.”
The next event planned at the Sanctuary is a Christmas in July day that will see Santa Claus come in for a visit from Mexico.
