PEDRO — Just like a good standup comic, it’s all about timing.
The Rock Hill Redwomen had just five hits but got them at the right time as they beat the Fairland Lady Dragons 3-1 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Sami Nixon scattered 10 singles, struck out 10 and walked just one to pick up the win.
“Sami pitched a great game, we had some timely hits and the defense held,” said Rock Hill coach Sam Gue.
“It was a great game. They had good pitching, too. We were just able to take advantage of our opportunities.”
Rock Hill (14-6) got a run in the bottom of the first inning.
Kaci Russell singled, Jill Hairston put down a sacrifice bunt, Brooke Hanshaw singled and a passed ball scored the run.
Fairland (5-10) tied the game in the top of the fourth when Maddy Kazee singled, was sacrifice to second and scored on a hit by Tiffani Christian.
But Rock Hill regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Hannah Roach walked and Jenna Lane and Lindy Simpson singled.
The Redwomen added an insurance run in the fifth without a hit.
Russell walked, stole second, and scored on a throwing error.
Christian was 2-3 and Caitlin Stone 2-4 to lead Fairland.
