Green beats Western in SOC

FRANKLIN FURNACE — It was worth the wait.
After more than a week of idle activity due to the weather, the Green Bobcats returned to the baseball field and beat the Western Indians 10-2 Wednesday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
John Hallum pitched a five-hitter as he struck out 13 and walked two to get the win for Green (2-1, 1-1).
“It was nice to get back on the field again and we played pretty well. We only made one error and Hallum threw a pretty good game in his first outing of the year,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
Green took a 2-0 lead in the second.
Trevor Carver walked, Mark Allen put down a sacrifice bunt but reached on a throwing error, Tyler Darnell walked and Clay Applegate hit a sacrifice fly. Trent Marcum and Hallum both walked to force in runs.
The lead went to 6-0 in the fourth.
Darnell, Applegate and Marcum all singled for a run. Johnson walked and Carver grounded out as a run scored. Allen walked and Andy Chavarria was hit by a pitch to drive in the final run.
A run scored in the fifth when Marcum singled and Hallum, Mark Howard and Carver all walked.
Three more runs scored in the sixth.
Clayton Belvins walked, Applegate singled and Marcum, Hallum and Johnson all followed with RBI singles.
Marcum went 3-3 and Applegate was 2-4 as Green had nine hits.
