James Pierce
James “Herbie” Pierce, 83, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. The Lawrence County native was born March 12,1930, the son of the late James Dewey and Mary Elizabeth Gwilliams Pierce. Mr. Pierce was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Patricia McGhee Pierce, who passed away Sept. 22, 2008.
Mr. Pierce was a 1948 graduate of Ironton High School and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He also served proudly in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952 as a Naval Hospital Corpsman with Marine Detachment. He worked as funeral director and embalmer for Phillips Funeral Home, Tracy Brammer Funeral Home and O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home. He was a member of Amvets 141.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Emma “Docky” Vogel, and Roberta “Sis” Hall.
Mr. Pierce is survived by two nieces, Emily Townsend, of Woodbridge, Va., and Beth Heartly, of Dixon, Ill.; two nephews, James Vogel, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Charles Vogel, of Pensacola, Fla.; in addition to five great-nieces, six great-nephews, four great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.
Funeral services will be noon Saturday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton with pastor Matt O’Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites by James Dickey Post No. 23. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of the service at the Funeral Home. Beverly Gillen
Beverly Gillen, 72, of Coal Grove, passed away Feb. 25, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Ironton. The Lawrence County native was born Nov. 15, 1941, the daughter of George “Jeep” and Rosemary “Cupie” Willis Christian.
Ms. Gillen was a 1959 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. Ms. Gillen retired from Ashland Oil in 1993 as a sales manager. She was a member of Coal Grove Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School superintendent. She also was a member of Coal Grove Betterment Club.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Meribah and Joe Willis; and aunt and uncle, Hilda and Cliff Hanshaw.
She is survived by two sisters, Lana “Dee Dee” Neal, of Clearwater, Fla., and Jodi Rogers, of Ironton; two brothers, Steve (Danell) Christian, of Wisconsin, and Teddy Christian, of Pedro; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Kay Porter, Zach Christensen and Neomia White
A private service will be held for the family with pastor Brad Jenkins officiating. Pallbearers will be Zack Christensen, Cody Damron, Teddy Christian, Steve Christian, Chris Rogers, Ryan Rogers, Brian Neal, John David Neal II and Cory Christian. Edward Roble
Edward Alan Roble, 50, of Huntington, W.Va., died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at home. A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday at Central Church of the Nazarene in Huntington by pastor Fred McCarty. Mary Holderby
Mary Evelyn Holderby, 89, of Proctorville, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, W.Va. Funeral service will 2 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery Proctorville. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Carol Weber
Carol Ann Weber, 66, of Chesapeake, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center Huntington, W.Va. She is survived by her husband, John Raymond Weber. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements.
Randy Foreman
Randy Scott Foreman, 41, of McDermott, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. Funeral Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Lombardsville Community Church in McDermott with pastor Shawn Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the Garvin Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of services at the church on Sunday. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton.
Delores Berry
Delores Ann Berry, 68, of Huntington, W.Va., died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home.
