PROCTORVILLE — The Lawrence County Relay For Life will have its annual kick-off event on Tuesday, February 4.
Relay For Life is an organization designed to raise funds and awareness for those battling cancer. The kick-off event’s purpose is to explain what Relay For Life is about, as well as sharing the stories of those who have battled different forms of cancer.
“We’ll be explaining the fundraisers,” said Relay For Life chairperson, Danielle Wellman. “On top of that we will also be explaining about survivors and the Luminaria ceremony where people can buy luminaries in honor of cancer victims.”
The kick-off party will also include games and giveaways where attendees will have a chance to win door prizes.
“It is going to be lots of fun,” Wellman said. “On top of the games, and door prizes we will also have pizza, and refreshments for everyone to enjoy.”
The Piecemakers have also supplied Relay For Life with a handmade quilt that will be raffled off by the organization.
“The quilt will be on display at the kick-off,” Wellman said. “Raffle tickets will be sold for it. The winner will be announced during our main event later this year.”
The group originally planned to have the kick-off event last week but had to reschedule because of inclement weather. The kick-off event will be from 6-8 p.m. at the Proctorville Campus of Ohio University Southern.
