CHESAPEAKE — Now that’s getting more mileage out of your engine.

The Chesapeake Lady Panthers didn’t use more players, but they got more overall scorings as they beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 65-53 Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Eight different players scored as the Lady Panthers improved to 9-9 and 4-4 in the OVC.

“It was good to see some girls get into the scoring column. We had eight instead of three or four and that will make us a better team,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Chris Ball.

Kaylee Curry had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Panthers. Atiya Spaulding finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Sydnee Hall added 10 points, six rebounds and seven assists for Chesapeake. Taylor Martin had four assists.

Kasey Russell scored 21 points to lead the Redwomen (3-16, 1-8). Anna Darby added 12 points.

Curry scored nine points as Chesapeake jumped out to a 20-8 first quarter lead.

The Lady Panthers pulled ahead 35-19 at the half despite 6-of-8 foul shooting by Russell in the second quarter.

Russell and Spaulding matched each other with five points as Rock Hill cut into the lead at 49-35 after three quarters.

Curry and Spaulding combined for 11 points in the fourth quarter as Chesapeake maintained the lead. Russell scored seven points, Darby five and Sarah Travis was 4-of-4 at the line as Rock Hill outscored the Lady Panthers 18-16.
