Dragons can’t hold early lead in loss to Vikings

SUMMIT, Ky. — The Fairland Dragons appeared to have built a good foundation in the first quarter, but then the floor fell out from under them.
After taking a 7-point first quarter lead, the Dragons watched the Rowan County Vikings rally for a 71-54 win Saturday.
Fairland (4-1) had four players in double figures led by Chance Short with 13. Thayer Flynn scored 11 while Luke Phillips and Evan Maddox had 10 each.
The Dragons were just 35 percent from the floor and only 5-of-24 from behind the 3-point line for 21 percent.
Ryne Callahan scored 30 points to lead Rowan County (3-2). Tyler Thacker scored 16 points for the Vikings who were 30-of-31 at the foul line. Fairland was 5-of-10 at the line.
The Dragons led 19-12 after the first quarter before the Vikings tied the game 26-26 at the half.
Rowan County took a 46-37 lead after three quarters and outscored Fairland 25-17 in the fourth quarter.
