WELLSTON — A change in three ended the shooting spree.

Fairland made a defensive change in the third quarter and shutdown the Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes as the Lady Dragons won 53-42 in the Lady Rockets Classic Saturday.

The Lady Dragons trailed early in the third quarter when they decided to switch from zone to man defense.

“They were shooting so well, we had to make a change. We went to man to keep them from making outside shots. The kids did a good job,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

Chandler Fulks hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead Fairland (4-1). Terra Stapleton had 14 points and3 blocked shots. Mackenzie Riley had 12 rebounds and Jenna Fulks grabbed 9, career highs for both girls.

Nelsonville-York (6-2) was led by Jennah Addis with 9 points and Angela Meade had 8. The Lady Buckeyes made six 3-pointers.

“We beat a good team. They had five seniors starting who had been playing for three or four years,” said Buchanan.

N-Y took a 17-14 first quarter lead, but Fairland got within 29-28 at the half as Stapleton scored 10 points in the half.

Fulks scored 8 points in the third quarter including a 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Lady Dragons took a 44-39 lead.

Nelsonville-York had just 3 points in the fourth quarter and was held to one field goal over the final 11 minutes.
