Tim Sierer
Emerson “Tim” Leo Sierer Jr., 66, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at his residence. The Ironton native was born Aug. 24, 1947, the son of the late Emerson “Sug” and Helen Bridges Sierer. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Martha June Spradlin Sierer, whom he married Nov. 15, 1964.
Mr. Sierer was a graduate of Ironton High School and a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam era. He was a former construction foreman at the Federal Aviation Administration for 30 years, retiring in 2003, and a member of the Plymouth Heights Nazarene Church in Franklin Furnace.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve Sierer and Terry Sierer; and a sister, Linda Sierer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Daniel and Bobbie Sierer, of Anchorage, Alaska, Ronald Sierer, of Ironton, and Kenneth and Sharon Sierer, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four brothers, Matthew Sierer, of Columbus, Richard Sierer, of Keniam Alaska, Kenneth Cowell, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ralph “Rusty” Sierer, of Ironton; sister, Sue O’Bryan, of Fairbanks, Alaska; three granddaughters, Laura Ashley Trebino, of Edmond, Okla., Jennifer June Sierer, of Sitka, Alaska, and Christian Faith Sierer, of Colorado Springs; two step-granddaughters, Amanda and Brie; and a step-great-granddaughter, Dani.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Plymouth Heights Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Andy Ramy officiating. Burial will follow in Clapboard Cemetery in Franklin Furnace and visitation will be noon until the time of service on Thursday at the church. Shirley Jenkins
Shirley Jenkins, 74, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at her residence. The Floyd County, Ky., native was born Feb. 5, 1939, the daughter of the late Hawley and Effie Hicks Scott.
Ms. Jenkins was a graduate of Garrett High School and a former CNA with Bryant’s Nursing Home.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James Scott, Keith Scott, and Charles Scott; three sisters, Sue Osbourne, Betty Hopper and Brenda Lawson; and stepmother, Ruby Scott.
She is survived by son, Kenneth Jenkins, of Franklin Furnace; daughter, Anita Wallace, of Franklin Furnace; sister, Burretta Moore, of Garrett, Ky.; brother, Ralph Scott, of Garrett; brother, Thomas Scott, of Garrett; brother, David (Nancy) Scott, of Inez, Ky.; brother, Harold Scott, of Garrett; sister, Joan (Jerry) Martin, of Garrett; two grandchildren, Brandon Wallace, of Franklin Furnace, and Jennifer (Cody) Stapleton, of Ironton.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. James Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Haverhill Cemetery and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. James Sharp
James W. Sharp, 70, of Ironton, died at home Nov. 28, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 6, 1943, a son of the late Eva Sammons Sharp and the late George Primm Sharp. James was a United States Army and Army National Guard veteran, member of the Ironton Eagles, Moose, AmVets, a volunteer for the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and Ironton Memorial Day Parade.
He was preceded in death by brother Ray Sharp.
He is survived by two sons, James Paul Sharp and Michael Scott Sharp; two daughters, Rebecca Ann Sharp and Lee Ann Sharp; three brothers, John, Joe and George Sharp; two sisters, Ruthie Layne and Mary Sharp; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his former wife, Ruth Joyce Wagoner; his girlfriend, Linda Havens; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral service will be noon on Wednesday in the chapel of the Brown Funeral Chapel with Pastor Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow with military honors provided by the Kenova American Legion Post 93 and the United States Army Detail in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services at the chapel. Memorial donations should be made to the funeral chapel to help the family with final expenses. The family has entrusted his care to Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton.
Myrtle Rood
Myrtle Ruth Rood, 86, of Proctorville, died on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013. Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home by the Rev. Eddie Salmons and Pastor Jeff Black.
